Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to visit the proposed tourism zone in Dedduwa, this morning (20). 

The 1800 acre area is to be developed as one of Asia's top three high-end tourism zones within the next few years. 

The project is jointly handled by the Southern Development Board (SDB) and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). 

A senior official from the SLTDA said land acquisition had already been done for the construction of the project. 

"It is mostly marsh lands and abandoned paddy fields. So, there will be very little impact on private lands," he explained. 

It is learnt that the Dedduwa area in the Southern province  will be developed into a tourism zone like Mayakoba, in Mexico. 

"Although the Prime Minister was planning to visit Dedduwa in November, it had be postponed due to the cyclone which struck the country," sources from the Prime Minister's office said. 

Ministers Sagala Ratnayaka and Gayantha Karunathilake will accompany the Prime Minister during today's visit, they further added.
