Sri Lanka Cricket ended a disastrous calendar year yesterday with only 05 of 28 ODI matches it played throughout the year.
It was also the year the cricket authorities appointed the most number of captains within a year.
Five captains, namely Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Chamara Kapugedara, Upul Tharanga and Thisara Perera led the Sri Lankan ODI team in 2017.
Apart from Mathews and Tharanga, none of the other captains had a permanent place in the national ODI team.
Sri Lanka was whitewashed in successive ODI tournaments by India and Pakistan. Causing further damage, Zimbabwe, one of the lowest ranking ODI teams, defeated Sri Lanka in a bilateral series in the latter's home soil.
However, two Sri Lankan Batsman, Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella, are among the ten international batsmen who scored highest number of runs in 2017.
Tharanga has scored over 1000 runs in 2017 and is the third highest run scorer in international cricket this year.
