President Maithripala Sirisena has directed the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to strictly implement regulations on the use of Polythene during the election period. 

Sri Lanka has already banned the use of Polythene, but political parties often use it for decorations and campaign-related activities. 

The President has told the environmental authorities to take stern action on anyone violating the polythene regulations. 

The election campaigning will start after the conclusion of the nomination process, which is currently underway.
