Former SLBC Chairman Sudarshana Gunawardena has been made permanent in his position as the Director General of Government Information. 

Mohamed Siddi Farook, a relatively lesser known person to the field of media, was appointed as the new Chairman of the SLBC. 

Gunawardena was made the Acting Director General of Government Information when his predecessor, Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya, resigned from the post. 

It was widely believed that Gunawardena was instrumental in giving a face-lift to the state run broadcasting company. 

During his tenure as the SLBC Chairman, he introduced a variety of new programmes and steered the SLBC in the direction of regaining its former glory. 

In this context, many observers believe Gunawardena, man who tried to make a difference within a short period of time, has in fact been 'kicked upstairs' by political authorities. 

Several veteran radio personalities, including Asoka Tillekeratne,, expressed the same view on social media after a new Chairman of appointed to the SLBC.
