Railway workers have made a mockery of the government with another alliance of railway unions, that did not take part in the previous strike, launching a fresh strike without any prior notice.
Transport Ministry sources confirmed Asian Mirror that the new trade union action has already been launched.
The move comes a day after the Locomotive Operative Engineers called off their strike following discussions with a ministerial sub committee appointed to look into the matter.
Railway operations were supposed to run according to their usual schedule by noon today.
However, with the new trade union action, railway operations are likely to be disrupted again.
All this drama has unfolded amid the GCE O/Level examination of which over 680,000 students are candidates.
This also comes in the wake of a gazette notification signed by President Maithripala Sirisena declaring the railway service as an essential service.
