Vacation of posts letters of the striking railway workers will be served today, highly placed sources within the Transport Ministry told Asian Mirror.
They also added that the ministry would take quick measures to recruit new workers to the railway service to fill the vacancies.
The new workers, according to ministry sources, would be trained with the retired workers who will be given temporary appointments.
The strikers have been considered to have vacated their positions, according to the gazette notification signed by President Maithripala Sirisena last week.
The Ministry, following the issuance of the gazette notification, declared that those who fail to report to work will be considered as workers who have vacated their posts.
Retired engine drivers, railway guards and station masters have been asked to report to work with immediate effect.
