The Sri Lankan cricket selectors made a questionable choice yesterday when they decided to leave Kusal Mendis out of the ODI series against India.
Kusal Mendis, over the past 12 months, was groomed to be Sri Lanka's permanent number 03 batsman across Test and ODI formats.
It can be assumed that Mendis has been left out of the side due to his mediocre performance during last two tournaments.
However, his exclusion from Test series against India was criticised by former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayewardena who indicated that Mendis would be an asset for the future.
The 22 year old player has scored 1159 runs in 39 ODIs at an average 32.11.
However, Kusal Janith Perera and Asela Gunaratne, who had to stay away from cricket due to injuries, have been included in the ODI squad playing against India.
