Taj Samudra hotel, one of the most prominent event locations in Colombo, has come under fire for its "unprofessionalism" ahead of the UNESCO-sponsored seminar was to mark the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera attended the event, along with several other high profile state representatives and private sector parties.
Former Government Information Director General Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya, an organiser of the event, bashed Tam Samudra hotel, in a social media post, soon before the event started.
"Never step into this hotel, mainly to organize an event. I am having a tough time in organizing an international conference. So unprofessional and negative attitude - I have never seen this attitude anywhere in the world. I don't care Taj getting a bad reputation but it reflects on a whole country. Highly frustrating!" Kalansooriya said.
Kalansooriya is also a Regional Advisor for Asia Pacific at International Media Support in Denmark.
The social media post was endorsed and shared by many others who had bitter experience in organising events at the same venue.
Taj Samudra has been in operation in Sri Lanka since 1983 and is one of the top hotels in the capital city of Colombo.
