It has now been revealed that the name of a Deputy Minister representing the national unity government has come out during the initial investigation into the killing of the famous Galgamuwa tusker, also known as Dala Puttuwa.
Six people, including two Grama Seva officers, have already been arrested in this regard, it has been established that some of them maintained close connections with the Deputy Minister.
The politician, a member of the Sri Lankan Freedom Party, represents the Kurunegala District, Asian Mirror reliably learns.
The investigation teams have also established that a famous Buddhist monk in the Kurunegala area is also linked to the killing of the elephant.
The Criminal investigations Department has launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter and the arrests were made after the CID took over the investigation.
Commenting on the investigation, a senior Police officer said the CID was probing whether this group was a part of a larger criminal network involved in the ivory trade.
