Despite the ongoing discussions between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Joint Opposition for a reunion before the Local Government elections, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa made deposits for the election for three districts.
Party sources said the party made deposits for Kalutara, Galle and Gampaha districts.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, a spokesman from the party said making deposits would not affect the ongoing programme to reunite the party.
"We were preparing to contest the elections separately. Negotiations to reunite the party was a new development. If the JO arrives at an agreement with the SLFP, we will submit nominations as an SLFP-led alliance," he added.
However, it is learnt that another round of talks will be held between the SLFP and JO today (28).
