The Colombo Fort Magistrates’ Court today issued a warrant for the arrest of former Ambassador to the United States Jaliya Wickremasuriya.

Wickremasuriya was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) of the Police on November 18 on charges that he misappropriated state funds.

He was released on bail on March 18, where after he obtained leave of court to travel abroad for a period.

Wickremasuriya however had failed to show up at court at the next hearing date prompting the court to issue a warrant on his arrest.
