The Court of Appeal is to take up for consideration the petition filed against the Gazette on Local Government delimitation on November 22.
The petition, filed by six citizens - residents of Colombo, Kandy, Hali-Ela, Matara and Embilipitiya – was taken up today.
The petitioners’ claim the Gazette was issued without taking into consideration the recommendations made by the sub-committee appointed to oversee the demarcation process.
They are asking that the Gazette notification be declared void.
A three-judge bench comprising Justices L. Dehideniya, Shiran Gunaratne and Kumudini Wickramasinghe took up the case.
