President Maithripala Sirisena, in a message tweeted this morning, condoled with the victims of the Iran-Iraq border earthquake.
‘My deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims of the earthquake that struck the border region between Iraq and Iran. Hope the people will overcome the calamity with their spirit of resilience,’ the President said.
Over 200 people have died and 1, 700 have been injured in the 7. 3 magnitude quake that struck on Monday.
While most of the deaths reported so far have been in Iran, the quake's epicenter was across the border in Iraq, about 350 kilometers (217 miles) north of Baghdad.
