President Maithripala Sirisena says the current government, which gives priority for the education of the country in keeping with its policy, has allocated larger sum of money from this year budget like in the previous years.
The President was speaking at the annual prize giving ceremony of Princess of Wales’ College, Moratuwa yesterday.
He said the building of scholars and intellectuals is important to the future of the country. “Accordingly, there should be no shortages in education. It is essential to provide all resources on this regard”, he said.
The President who arrived in the school was warmly welcomed by the students.
President Sirisena presented awards for the students who showed outstanding performance at the school. He also felicitated the teachers.
Minister of the Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, State Minister Eran Wickramaratne, the staff of the school including the Principal Malini Samarakoon, parents and past pupils were present on this occasion.
The annual prize giving ceremony of Methodist High School in Moratuwa was also held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, today.
The President who arrived in the school was warmly welcomed by the students.
A commemorative stamp was issued to mark the 175th anniversary of this school.

Speaking at this occasion the President said the government will fulfill its responsibilities to build a better future for the children. He said the children should act courageously not only to pass exams but also to win the life.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to save children from drug menace and stated everybody of the society should fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.
