Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardena criticized the country's cricket selectors for not including Kusal Mendis in the Test squad for the series against India.
Mendis was groomed for the number three slot of the test team, which was previously occupied by the veteran, Kumar Sangakkara.
"Don’t understand how @KusalMendis1 is not in the test squad? Even he is not playing should be in India. That’s how young players learn," Jayawardena tweeted.
Instead of Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, who was dropped from the Test team a few months back, has been recalled to the side.
Mendis's performance was mediocre in the recently concluded tournaments against India and Pakistan.
Former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews, who was unavailable for the series against Pakistan due to an injury, has been included in the squad.
