The Colombo High Court this morning released nine suspects, including former senior LTTEer Emil Kanthan, from the Douglas Devananda attempted murder case due to insufficient evidence placed before the court.

Six other who were found guilty were earlier sentenced to 10 ½ years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and ordered to pay compensation of Rs. 10, 000 each.

The suspects are accused of having plotted against Devananda and attempted his murder in 1998.

Douglas Devananda has had over 10 unsuccessful attempts on his life by the LTTE.
