A silent protest was held this morning outside the Fort Magistrates’ Court demanding the release of Inter-University Students’ Federation Convener Lahiru Weerasekera and Convener of the Inter-University Bhikku Federation Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera.

Lahiru Weerasekera and Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera were arrested on June 23 after students led by the two unions stormed the Health Ministry premises on June 21, causing damage to public property.

On October 12, the Colombo Fort Magistrate re-remanded Lahiru Weerasekera and Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera till today (October 26). The protest is to demand that Weerasekera and Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera are released.
