President Maithripala Sirisena has said the year 2018 will be declared Food Production Year.

He said that all relevant policies and plans would be combined to commensurate sustainable development goals.

The President told the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday that the combined input of the public, private and non-government organizations would be used to attain these goals.

Food production was affected due to bad weather condition in the country in last cultivation seasons, and to overcome this situation the food production ‘battle week’ was begun recently.
