While the legal foundation of new election system has been prepared by the Local Authorities Election (Amendment) Act No. 16 of 2017, the public is yet unaware of these amendments.

Thereby, the proposal by National Policies and Economic Affairs Minister Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to implement an awareness programme on the amendments was yesterday approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The awareness programme will be jointly conducted by the Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Faiszer Mustapha and Women and Child Affairs Minister Chandrani Bandara.
