The government yesterday, considering the importance of making the general public aware of the progress made on reconciliation, decided to extend the term on the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms (SCRM) by two years.
The SCRM was established in 2015 for a period of two years for undertaking reconciliation related tasks and the proposal brought by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to extend its period until 31.03.2019 was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday.
The Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms, which comes under the Prime Minister's Office, is tasked with the design and implementation of Sri Lanka's reconciliation mechanisms and was formed by the Cabinet of Ministers on 18 December 2015.
