The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will meet with the Mahanayake Theras of the Asgiri and Malwattu chapters of the Siam Nikaya to assess their stance on the new Constitution.
Conflicting reports have been circulated about the Asgiri and Malwattu Mahanayake stance on the proposed new constitution and the TNA is keen to clear the air.
The TNA is calling for a further devolution of power to the provinces and for the North and East to be merged as one province.
Matters such as curbing the powers of the Executive Presidency, allotting financial autonomy to the provinces are some of the other issues at the heart of the proposed new constitution.
Media reports indicated recently that the Mahanayake Theras of the Asgiri and Malwattu chapters were opposed to the proposed new constitution.
