Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando said today his request that vehicle imports are cancelled for ministries this year was agreed to by the President.

‘Requested President at Cabinet to cancel all vehicle imports for this year for ministries, President agreed all will be cancelled,’ he tweeted earlier today.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Ports and Shipping Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said today the Cabinet had decided to cancel all vehicle permits this year.

“A decision was made at the Cabinet meeting today, based on a proposal by the President, to cancel all vehicle permits,’ he said.

The funds allocated for vehicle purchase will be used for disaster relief, the Ports and Shipping Minister said.
