Schools in eight districts have been ordered shut by Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam on account of the adverse weather conditions that have caused floods and landslides.
Accordingly, all state and private schools in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara and Hambanthota districts will be closed with immediate effect until June 2.
Extreme weather conditions have caused floods and landslides to several districts in the Southwestern, Western, Uva and Sabaragamuwa parts of the island.
