Disaster Management Centre Issues Landslide Warnings To Seven Districts

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) have issued warnings that landslides are likely to occur in several districts.

Accordingly, areas in the districts of Ratnapura, Kegalle, Galle, Kalutara, Matara, Hambanthota and Nuwara-Eliya have been identified as prone to landslides.

In Ratnapura, the areas of Elapatha, Pelmadulla, Ehaliyagoda, Kiriella, Imbulpe, Ayagama, Kahawatte, Kalawana, Kolonna and Nivithigala; in Kegalle, the areas of Bulathkohupitiya, Deraniyagala, Yatiyantota, Dehiowita and surrounding areas; in Galle, the areas of Baddegama, Yakkalamulla, Neluwa, Thawalama, Niyagama, Nagoda and surrounding areas; in Kalutara, the areas of Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta, Walallawita, Baduraliya and surrounding areas; in Matara, the areas of Kotapola, Pasgoda, Pitabeddara, Mulatiyana and surrounding areas; in Hambantota, the areas of Walasmulla, Katuwana and surrounding areas and in Nuwara-Eliya, the areas of the Ambagamuwa korale division and surrounding areas have been earmarked as vulnerable to landslides.

Residents of the aforementioned have been asked relocate to safer areas until the adverse weather conditions prevalent across the southwestern parts of the island abates.
