American Ambassador Atul Keshap has spoken out against the attacks against Muslim places of worship by saying that any attacks against places of worship were reprehensible and should not occur.
He was responding to news of a petrol bomb attack on a Muslim mosque on Mallwapitiya, Kurunegala on May 20 night.
‘Any attack on a house of worship is reprehensible; this is the third in a week. I hope authorities arrest and try the perpetrators soon,’ the American Ambassador tweeted in the early hours of May 21 morning.
Muslim MP have also raised concern over the increasing attacks against Muslim establishments and places of worship, saying that if the government doesn’t intervene they would be forced to take action.
Minister of Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs A.H.M. Haleem has also written to the President asking that he take action on the increasing race-motivated attacks on Muslim establishments.
If the government fails to act in this regard, the Muslim ministers have intimated they’re willingness to form a separate group in Parliament.
Several attacks against Muslim places of worship and establishments have been reported over the past few weeks.
