President Will Leave To Australia Today

President Maithripala Sirisena will leave to Australia on a state visit today.

The visit, which begins on May 23, will conclude on May 26.

Sri Lanka and Australia began relations in 1949, when Sri Lanka opened a High Commission in Canberra.

Prime Ministers D. S. Senanayake and Sir John Kotelawala and President J. R. Jayawardena were previous heads of state that visited Australia.

Australian Prime Ministers Sir Robert Menzies, Gough Whitlam and Tony Abbott are the three Australian heads of government who have visited Sri Lankan since establishing diplomatic ties.
