The Right To Information (RTI) Act was passed not just for the benefit of journalists but all people, Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said.
He made these comments addressing an RTI seminar organised for teacher and instructors from Colombo and Kalutara at the Department of Government Information today.
At present Information officers are being appointed. The RTI will ensure transparency. In the future, the public will be able to get information, the Minister said.
Sri Lanka’s RTI Act is ranked seventh in the world. In the Asian region we are only second to India, Minister Karunathilake said.
