Mahinda Rajapaksa Challenges Government To Hold Three PC Elections

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday challenged the government to hold provincial council elections, if the government was confident of victory.

The former President made these remarks to the media in Ratnapura.

“The government says it is confident about winning the election. If that is the case, I request the government to hold provincial council elections as early as possible. Then, the whole country can see which party has the biggest public support,” he said.

The former President added that the terms of North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern provincial councils would expire in September. He stressed that the government should not postpone the three PC elections citing various reasons.
