With the view of promoting existing spiritual and cultural bond between Sri Lanka and India, Sri Lanka Army's Corps of Engineer Services (CES) built and displayed the first ever 'Vesak' Pandal in New Delhi on 15th May.

The Vesak Pandal was an initiative of Chitranganee Wagiswara, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in India and was built to commemorate the Birth, Enlightenment and Parrinibbana of the Buddha. 2

200 Vesak lanterns were also displayed at the venue to add colour to the occasion.

An Army team, comprising of one Officer and 15 Other Rankers of the CES flew to India on 2 May for the construction.

Sri Lanka Navy ferried the required materials and equipment to India.

The 40 feet high Vesak Pandal depicts the 'Angulimala' Jathaka story in the Hindi language.
