President Maithripala Sirisena opened the the biomass power plant of the Tokyo Cement Group in Trincomalee yesterday.
This Rs. 2.5 billion plant by Tokyo Power will add 70 GW to the national grid.
Agricultural resources are utilized to generate electricity at this plant.
The aim of the Government is to increase the use of renewable energy sources to 10 % for the purpose of power generation by the end of this year.
The private sector also has implemented this power plant approaching that environmental friendly effort of the Government.
The President also handed over the title deeds of the houses provided by the Tokyo Cement Group to the victims of the Tsunami.
Minister of Power and Renewable Energy,Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister of Agriculture,Duminda Dissanayake, Governor of the Eastern Province, Austin Fernando, Eastern Provincial Council Minister Ariyawathi Galappaththi, Chairman of Tokyo Cement Company, Dr. Harsha Cabral, Managing Director, S R Gnanam and many others participated.
