UPFA MP Kanchana Wijesekera has stepped down from the Joint Opposition due to a dispute with a politician in the same camp.
Wijesekara, the son of former Minister Mahinda Wijesekera, was instrumental in organising the Joint Opposition May Day rally last week.
However, Wijesekera has confirmed that he will not join the government nor will he join the SLFP group supporting President Maithripala Sirisena.
He has said he will distance himself from the activities of the Joint Opposition due to "personal reasons".
He has also stated that he is unaware of certain decisions the Joint Opposition with regard to its activities in the Matara District.
