Activists Organise Peaceful Vigil To Safeguard Community Dogs In Sri Lanka

The Alliance for the Protection of Community Dogs in Sri Lanka has organised a peaceful vigil in front of the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo, tomorrow.

The vigil, which will begin at 4 p.m. will end at 6 p.m., the Alliance for the Protection of Community dogs informed.

‘Our purpose is to request and compel the President and the Prime Minister to give all animal lovers and compassionate people a written statement assuring the safety of community dogs in Sri Lanka and also to confirm that there won't be any inhumane, unethical dog-catching, dumping or killing of community dogs,’ they said in a statement.

The vigil comes in the wake of protests by Sri Jayawardenepura University students and animal rights activists that community dogs at the Jayawardenapura University were being removed from the premises by local authorities.
