Power and Renewable Energy Deputy Minister United National Party (UNP) MP Ajith P. Perera has listed UNP membership as necessary for work at the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).

In a letter circulated widely within political circles, the MP has listed among the usual educational qualification, membership with the United National Party.

The vacancies are for drivers at the Sri Lanka Transport Board; five hundred vacancies exist. The MP, in his letter intended for private circulation has listed UNP membership among the desired education qualification.

 His move has been widely criticized as being unethical and especially not in line with the policies of good governance.
