Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said he would not revoke his US citizenship.
He made this remark during an interview with BBC Sandeshaya, when asked about his dual citizenship and the Court of Appeal's verdict against Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe.
Rajapaksa said he was not in a position to let go of his US citizenship as his family lives there.
If Rajapaksa retains his US citizenship, he will not be able to run for any election in Sri Lanka, in the future.
The former Minister said the 19th Amendment to the constitution was introduced to shut the Rajapaksas out of politics.
