Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has taken steps to make the service of 1,660 labourers of Central Cultural Fund permanent.
Most of these 1, 600 labourers were recruited to the service through a manpower company during the previous regime.
Minister Kariyawasam, considering the complaints that the manpower company in question has taken Rs 500 from the salary of each labourer, instructed the Central Cultural Fund not to have any dealings with the said company.
The minister had also instructed the official to take steps to re-recruit the labourers who have the required qualifications and to make them permanent.
Accordingly, the labourers who have the required qualifications will be made permanent from May.
