The Sri Lanka Navy opened five RO plants for community use at Mahabulankulama Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura, Jayanthipura Vidyalaya in Padavi Sripura, Rasnakawewa in Horowpothana, Mamaduwa in Vavuniya and Welioya Divisional Secretariat on Friday.
The installation of RO facilities will quench the thirst of 2,365 school children and 6,796 residents in those areas.
The financial allocation for the RO facility at Mahabulankulama Maha Vidyalaya was extended by Firefly Mission (FFM) of Singapore, while rest of the projects were carried out under the patronage of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.
Accordingly, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 199 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 99,087 families and 74,220 school children with safe drinking water.
