SLFP Is In Two Minds About Disciplinary Action On Rajapaksa Group's May Day Rally

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is in two minds about taking disciplinary action on party rebels taking part in the Joint Opposition's May Day rally at the Gallery Face Green.

Speaking to media yesterday, SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said the party would make the right decisions at the right time. He added that the party would consider disciplinary action against the SLFP members taking part in the Rajapaksa group's May Day rally.

He said it was disappointing that a leader of the calibre of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, a former Chairman of the SLFP, is now attempting to divide the party.

The General Secretary scoffed at Rajapaksa's remark that the true SLFPer are with the joint Opposition.

However, at a press conference in Colombo yesterday, SLFP stalwart Minister S.B. Dissanayake said the party had not discussed disciplinary action on those taking part in the Joint Opposition's May Day rally.

"We try our best to prevent a division in the party. So, we have not discussed disciplinary action," Dissanayake said, explaining the party's position on the rebel group's May Day rally.
