Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake told reporters that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been invited to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) May Day rally in Kandy on May 1.
Responding to reporters at a press conference he said that the former President had not yet left the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and therefore had been invited to join with the SLFP rally in Kandy, despite the Joint Opposition organizing a rally in Colombo.
“The former President has not left the SLFP. So he is invited. Where is he to leave the SLFP and go? There is only the UNP.”
The Central Province Chief Minister also said that the Joint Opposition organised rally would be the rally least attended by the people.
