Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today the current government was to be blamed for the Meethotamulla disaster.

“Even so, they blame everything on me,” he said.

“We did everything, we won the war, we built roads and highways, we even provided a solution to the Meethotamulla garbage problem.”

What has this government done?” he asked. “They don’t have to win wars, they don’t have to build highways, but they couldn’t even get that one right.”

However the Meethotamulla garbage dump was aggravated under the former President. Before then the garbage was dumped at a similar site on Bloemendhal Road.
