Country Rejects Colombo Garbage: Garbage Conundrum Continues

Protest took place is several areas across the island as residents rejected the government’s decision to deposit garage from Colombo in those areas.

Residents of Dompe, Kirindiwala, Muthurajawela, Kotikawatte, Karadiyana and Veyangoda are among those that protested.

The residents of these areas took to streets and prevented garbage lorries from depositing garbage collected in Colombo in their areas.

Even in Karadiyana, where the Kesbewa Magistrate gave an order allowing 350 metric tons of garbage from Colombo to be dumped there on a temporary basis, only 225 was allowed by the residents who proceeded to refuse to allow garbage dump trucks enter the facility.
