The residents of Nittambuwa staged a protest today against the dumping of garbage at the Dadagamuwa garage dump.

A tense situation occurred as a result of the protest, causing Police to mediate to allow traffic through.

The Nittambuwa residents alleged that while garbage from Gampaha and Attanagalla were already being dumped in Dadagamuwa, they feared the government was going to bring more garbage from other areas to dump at Dadagamuwa.  

The resident of Karadiyana and Kotikawatte have also staged protests against garbage being dumped in their areas.

The protests come in the wake of the government decision to halt garbage dumping in Meethotamulla, and dump garbage elsewhere.

Karadiyana and Dompe were among the sites identified by the government but the residents if these areas are not happy with garbage from Colombo being brought to their areas.
