Sri Lankan Prime Minister To Visit Vietnam to Strengthen Ties

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will start an official visit to Vietnam on Monday to strengthen cooperation in several sectors, including trade and investment.

Other fields in which the two countries plan to boost contacts are telecommunications, aquatic products processing, manufacture and construction materials.

At the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Xun Phuc, the Sri Lankan head of State will have a four-day agenda in here that includes talks on international and regional affairs of mutual interest.

Bilateral relations were officially established in 1970 and they have developed through the Intergovernmental Committee on Economy and Technology, and the mechanism of political consultation, in addition to visits by high-level officials.

Bilateral trade totaled 192 million dollars in 2015 and more than 325 million dollars last year.

In addition, Sri Lanka invested nearly 84 million dollars in 15 projects in Vietnam, according to statistics published on the occasion of this trip.
