Former Minister and UPFA Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena said the Local Government and Provincial Council elections would be postponed after the Joint Opposition's May Day rally.
"The entire Gallery Face green will be covered by a sea of people on May Day," the Parliamentarian said, addressing a public meeting in the Kalutara district yesterday.
"When that happens, the government will postpone the elections due for this year," he added.
"Three Provincial Council elections should be held this year aside from the Local Government election. The government will understand the results of these elections when they see the Joint Opposition May Day rally."
Abeygunawardena stressed that the government should hold the elections as early as possible, without finding reasons to postpone them.
The Parliamentarian also vowed to topple the government before the end of 2017.
