Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa urged his supporters not to bring crowds to pro-Rajapaksa political rallies hereafter.
"When the leaders of the government see our crowds, they get scared and postpone elections," the former President said, alluding to the postponement of the Local Government election.
He made these remarks addressing a public meeting in Rathnapura. The meeting was organized by the Sri Lanka People's Party (SLPP), led by Prof. G.L. Peiris.
"So, please don't bring crowds to my meetings. We need elections as soon as possible," the former President said.
He also said the current government was using his large-scale development and construction projects to attract Foreign Direct Investments(FDIs).
"When I initiated those projects, the opposition said they were white elephants. Now, they go around the world looking for foreign partners for the projects I initiated," Rajapaksa said, addressing the meeting.
