Government Medical Officers' Reject Solution On SAITM: Promise Tougher Trade Union Action

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has rejected the solution to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) issue put forwards by the government last week.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Navin De Zoysa said that the solution to the SAITM issue must be based on the proposals put forth by the Deans of the medical faculties of eight universities.

He furthermore said the GMOA would engage in stronger trade union action if the government failed to change their stance on the private medical college.

On Friday, the government said the Health Ministry would take over the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.

The government also offered a host of other solutions, including gazetting minimum requirement and providing further clinical training to SAITM graduates at government hospitals.
