Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Harsha de Silva this morning said the United States Embassy had informed him of the reasons for the Syria attack today.

‘The Charge d' Affairs of US Embassy Colombo called on me earlier today to explain the circumstances that led to the US attacks in Syria airbase,” the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister said, but remained tightlipped on what these reasons were.

Be that as it may foreign media reported that the use of chemical weapons against civilians had been cause for the United State’s swift reversal in policy.

Previously Trump had referred to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as an ally against the Islamic State (IS).
