Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, at a rally organised by the Joint Opposition (JO) in Galle on the weekend hit out at the government accusing them of ruling the country by jailing opponents.

“Wimal Weerawansa in languishing in jail. This government is ruing by jailing their opponents,” he said.

He accused both the President and the Prime Minister of being complicit in the plan to jail opponents.

“One rules from here, on rules from abroad,” he accused.

“They think by controlling the FCID, the CID and the Prisons Department they can continue this rule.”

“I hold both responsible for what is happening in the country,” he said.
