Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed all Parliamentarians to refrain from making accusations and insulting members when participating in debates in the House. Making a special statement, the Speaker further called on the members to respect standing orders and safeguard Parliamentary traditions. The Speaker said that every member should limited their speeches to the particular topic. No mention should be made pointing out the finger at any member. It is clearly mentioned in the Standing Orders about the laws that the MPs should adhere to and respect. He said he wished to draw the attention of all MPs to these facts. But the Speaker said that it should be stated that he observed that on the 22nd of this month, some MPs had been making various unreasonable, false and baseless allegations against the Prime Minister and some members, tarnishing the dignity of the supreme body. It is sad to mention that they had willfully breached the standing orders by doing so.
The Speaker said that he had already apprised these MPs. The Speaker called on all Members of Parliament to refrain from making allegations and insulting an engage in the proceedings respecting the dignity of the House. He added that the members should be engaged in activities within the House adhering to its traditions as clearly stated in the provisions of the standing orders.
