Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva, who is currently in Geneva, has revealed the full list of co-sponsors of the UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka.
The United States, the United Kingdom, Macedonia, Montenegro, Sri Lanka, Canada, Israel, Australia, Japan, Norway, Germany, Republic of Korea, Lichtenstein, Slovakia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Albania, Ireland, Indonesia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Iceland, France, Lithuania, Slovenia, Poland, Ivory Coast, Bulgaria, Greece, Latvia, Sweden, Romania, Finland, Malta, Georgia, Netherlands, Spain, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Estonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina are the co-sponsors of the resolution.
"We received a huge mandate from the global community to carry on the good work we started on reconciliation. We received an unprecedented 47 nation cosponsored adoption by consensus at the UNHRC here in Geneva to rollover the 2015 resolution with another 2 year extension," the Deputy Minister said yesterday.
"Everyone understands that we have numerous obstacles; particularly by the extremist elements on both sides who for their narrow political interests attempt to derail the genuine efforts of the moderates. But I am certain that we will prevail in dealing with the past and more importantly building a Sri Lanka that is prosperous and equitable with all communities living in harmony," he added.
