A Grade 11 student of Royal College was admitted to the Asiri Surgical Hospital yesterday after a old boy of St. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia assaulted him during the limited overs ‘Big Match’ at the SSC.

Reports say the old boy of St. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia who was a member of the Royal-Thomian match Organising Committee had assaulted the Grade 11 student of Royal College after he had attempted to invade the pitch while the match was underway.

The St. Thomas’ College old boy had held the Royalist student in a chokehold and them proceeded to assault and kick him. The Royal College student had been taken to the hospital soon after the attack reports said.

Several bystanders reported witnessing the incident but said the attack on the Royal College student was a minor one, not warranting hospitalisation. Others say the St. Thomas’ College old boy should be severely upbraided for his behaviour.
